RescueBee: Autonomous drone hangar system for perimeter protection and BOS operations

‘RescueBee’ is an AI-controlled drone hangar system for perimeter protection and official missions that flexibly deploys swarms of drones and individual devices. It autonomously analyses mission requirements and decides whether tasks should be carried out as a swarm or individually, including sensor control and route planning. Inspired by the ‘RescueFly’ research project, the system integrates innovative AI-supported detection and analysis in order to act efficiently and precisely in critical scenarios such as saving human lives or monitoring large areas.

About the speaker

Thomas Zügel is Managing Director of MINTMASTERS GmbH and responsible for research and development.

Joachim von Beesten is Managing Director at the Björn Steiger Foundation. He has been responsible for the Research, Development and Specialised Vehicles division for over 5 years, which includes the RescueBee project presented here. The special vehicles include special vehicles that are not available across the board in the regular rescue service, such as baby ambulances, paediatric emergency vehicles and a medical intervention car. 
In addition to other research topics such as the ‘Use of artificial intelligence to strengthen the rescue chain’ and the ‘Effects of the mobility turnaround on rescue services, fire services and civil protection’, Mr von Beesten also coordinates the foundation's activities at the German Centre - Mobility of the Future with regard to the mapping of preclinical care.
Before joining the Foundation, Mr von Beesten spent 18 years in senior positions at Deutsche Telekom, where he was most recently responsible for the IoT business for various industries.
